In early 2010, the Palo Alto Camera Club launched three Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The idea behind the SIGs is to provide a venue for members with similar interests to explore these interests in greater depth outside of regular club meetings. The groups are largely self-managing in the sense that each SIG sets its own agenda, meeting place and location. Each SIG will continue for as long as it meets the needs of its members. Additional SIGs may be formed as new areas of interest are identified. Members who are interested in joining one or more of these groups may do so by contacting the leader listed below.

Landscape, Macro
& Nature ('LMN') |
The goal of this SIG is to learn more about Landscape, Macro, and Nature photography via demonstrations, hands-on practice, and by viewing each other's work. We'll focus on learning about technical topics, finding a vision with nature as a subject, and practicing our craft/art. |

| Lighting & Portraits |
This SIG is meant to be a learning, totally hands-on experience. The plan is
to bring equipment to the meetings and learn, practice, etc. I will probably
try and find some models we can use as subjects when the time is right.
Here's what I plan to include as SIG topics:
- Discuss all aspects of lighting (this covers a lot of material)
- How to light a portrait (natural light, single light, multiple lights)
- Environmental portraits
- Lighting a single subject, two people, groups
- Portable, battery-operated hotshoe strobes
- Studio strobes (mono blocks, power packs, etc.)
- Triggering all manner of strobes
- Lighting modifiers
- Backgrounds and props
- Posing models
- High-key/Low-key lighting
- Table-top lighting
- Still life lighting
- High-speed/action lighting |
