WHEN: Sunday Oct 9, 2005 - Meet at PA Art Center parking lot by 8:00 am for carpooling. For those driving directly to Alviso, follow directions below to the Alviso Marina parking lot. Try to arrive by 8:30 am.
WHERE: Just north of San Jose, at the 'bottom of the Bay'. (Map). From Palo Alto drive south on Rte 101, take Alviso exit onto Rte 237 East, and then exit on Gold (Lafayette) St (just before North First St). Follow Gold St north until it veers left and ends at Elizabeth St., in front of the old Bayside Canning Co. (building in the above photo, right). Continue about a block on Hope St to the Alviso Marina parking lot, where we'll all meet.
SITES OF INTEREST:

- Weathered and faded cannery murals
- historic district with evidence ot Houses of Pleasure
- the Star of the Sea Parish
- levees for viewing sloughs and small boats
- Victorian houses
- salt ponds, wildlife (pelicans are in season, as above, 9-29-05)
- collections of junk (amazing junkyard), old boats
On some weekends, there are celebrations and gatherings in the old town streets.
LUNCH: We'll meet for lunch at Andiamo Cafe, a Mexican Italian restaurant at Hope & Liberty St. The founder is a man of Peruvian and Nicaraguan parents. Meeting time to be announced at the parking lot before we split up.
