| " This will be a discussion of the rationale, techniques and technical issues associated with producing large format digital prints. Utilizing 44" Epson machines since my first appreciation of large gallery prints in 1999, I have engaged the large print as a viable way to bring a needed sense of scale to chosen photographic themes, but also as a path to assuring heightened visiblity in the world of commercial galleries. As a fine art gallery director in San Francisco I see the presence of such output still very much undiminished; this is strongly represented in ongoing national venues such as Photo Miami and the recent AIPAD Photography Show in New York. Now operating as Anselmo Prints Works, I have opened my studio to the making of large format fine art prints for photographers around the Bay Area, including some in PACC. From the role of enlargement software, to the critical task of file preparation, to the limitations of different styles of presentation, we'll evaluate the large print in its compellingly unique ability to not only bring new experiences to the viewer, but also to suggest innovative perceptual and creative horizons for the photographer.
