Program Evening

"A CONVERSATION ABOUT OUR ART"

with

Art Professor Christy Junkerman

Wed July 23, 2008

Art professor Christine Junkerman will lead an interactive conversation with us about experiencing the art in our photographs. She is an expert on Renaissance Painting, and her view of engaging art is to stand face to face with it. It is the confrontation of the visual and the verbal that helps us share the experience of art with others. Art criticism is best when it centers on the emotion and insight evoked by an image rather than finding flaws, re-cropping, and nitpicking the images.

Christy is on the faculty of San Jose State and Stanford Universities.

Each member who attends may bring one image to show and discuss (1-2 minutes only) with the audience. The maker can discuss the intention of the image and their thoughts. Christy and the audience will share their responses to the maker’s art.

A member can bring two images to show side by side if they help illustrate an interesting contrast. Any image - monochrome, color, pictorial, creative, painted, manipulated, or whatever may be reviewed. The usual ‘print night’ rules will apply but with the addition that the maker will add the verbal to the visual about the art in the image. No prizes or ribbons will be awarded but hopefully the members will be greatly enriched by the experience.

If you plan to present an image (or image pair) please email member Stan Chism by Fri July 18. We think we can discuss about 30 images during the course of the evening.
