I encourage ALL interested PACC members* to submit about 8 of their best images for installation on our web site's "virtual gallery". We now have sufficient space to show several FULL PAGE (450 pixels high) high-quality images for as many who wish to participate. I suggest printing this page to guide you as you prepare your images and text.
Members with scanned images may send them as attachments directly to me at the e-mail address below, or drop them off on a CD. Please contact me first to alert me to your intention. Follow the instructions below for preparing image files.
For those who do not have digital capability, Anne MacKenzie has offered to scan your original 35 mm slides or negatives. Contact her by phone or e-mail to arrange a drop-off. Those with images made from medium format film can submit prints to her for capture by digital camera. For each image provide a title and the year taken (in the accompanying e-mail or note).
For an idea of what the galleries would look like, feel free to visit any of the member galleries by clicking on one of the names on this page. From Feb. 2002 on, the format has been changed to show "frames" - thumbnails on the left, with selected larger images on the right. Also, we have added a maker's page as an introduction to the gallery, showing a photo of the maker, along with a brief 'artist's statement'. These also need to be submitted, preferably along with the images.
At this time it is not necessary to separate images by PACC competition category - any mix of your best is fine.
Members with existing galleries are encouraged to "refresh" them every year or so, following these same guidelines.
- JPEG file format, with compression set at "High" or 8 (i.e., medium compression)
- RGB space - please convert to sRGB (best for web viewing). (In Photoshop 7 or less, select IMAGE - MODE - CONVERT TO PROFILE. This has been changed to the Edit tool in later versions - CS, etc.). Do NOT use the "Save for Web" command - instead use "Save as", select JPG as the file type, and select Quality level of about 8. This will minimize any loss of color saturation. Images that are untagged (i.e., no sRGB or other color profile) will appear darker on the website
- Resolution - 72 ppi
- Approx. maximum dimensions: Height 500 pixels, width 600 pixels (for first place winners of monthly competitions, set image HEIGHT to 250 pixels)
- No borders, please - to ensure a consistent style across the gallery
- Number of images - 8 (I will choose 6). If your Internet service provider balks at the number or size of the attachments, divide them over 2-3 separate messages.
- For each image provide (in the accompanying e-mail or note) a TITLE and the YEAR taken so we can insert a copyright protection symbol
- If you wish to "refresh" your gallery (approx. twice yearly) submit up to 8 new images (with title and year taken) and indicate which (or all) of the older images they should replace.
- The "Questions?" mail link on your gallery home page will go to your own e-mail address unless you specify otherwise.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Laurie Naiman, Webmaster
