My May 2007 program on macro photography is a new and revised version of the same program I gave to the Club in 2003, so those who remember it will receive new information, especially about digital techniques.

My talk will include the following subjects:

  • What is macro photography
  • Theory of magnification
  • The digital camera and macro photography
  • Equipment and flash methods
  • You don't need Photoshop if you know your camera and your eye
  • Photo examples (slides)

PROGRAM NIGHT - MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY - Bob Rewick

Date: Wed. April 23, 2003
Time: 7:30 pm
Place: Palo Alto Art Center

Bob Rewick would like to share his experiences in macro photography with PACC members and guests. Bob is a published author on macrophotography and has given talks on the subject at several Bay Area locations. He has displayed macro flower prints at the Mountain View City Center, and hopes to display his work at the Coyote Point Museum gallery later this year. Bob has used or studied most of the common techniques of close-up photography, including macro, Raynox, diopter, reverse-mount, and stacked lens combinations, extension tubes, bellows, a home-made macro-flash bracket, microscopes, scanning field photography, and the Scheimpflug rule. Many of Bob's images are taken in the field, handheld at f/32! Bob will demonstrate the principles of macro photography by presenting slides, bringing many of the pieces of equipment mentioned above, and several books on the subject. The talk will include handouts that review the methods, and list the advantages/disadvantages of each.. (The following Sunday April 27, Bob and Joy will lead a workshop on macro flower photography at Strybing Arboretum in San Francisco during which you can practice some of the techniques he has described.
