Image by Wright Schickli Selected by The Chateau Gallery

Underworld, an image by Wright Schickli, was selected for inclusion in the Art of Landscape Exhibition by The Chateau Gallery in Louisville. Chateau invited photographers whose work spans the realm between the natural and the built, the monumental and the ephemeral, to provide a visual exploration of our relationship to time and place and how humanity is transformed by the environments we inhabit. The exhibition runs from December 1 through January 1. Wright says:  I captured Underworld at the Palo Alto Art Fair this fall. The sun’s rays were hitting two color paintings on University Avenue where one was standing on an easel, the other behind/on top of it. This photo is not a composite or double exposure… it was just a single shot from my Monochrome camera and 21mm lens. I seem to have as much success with what I call my "fake landscapes" as I do my real ones :)

Set in the heart of Historic Old Louisville Preservation District, The Chateau Gallery, aka TCG, is a contemporary hybrid art gallery and studio with a narrative as captivating as the artwork housed within its walls. The building’s unique Chateauesque Victorian architecture lends itself to the gallery’s name. Throughout its many lives, this building has served as the estate of a tobacco baron, a funeral home, the Kentucky College of Barbering, an unlicensed child care center, a "drug dealer's palace," and a law office.
