Allyson Ely’s image, Flight, was selected for inclusion in Soho Photo Gallery’s Annual Members Group Exposition, Intimacy. The juror was Elinor Carucci, an Israeli-born American photographer and educator who is based in New York City and noted for her intimate portrayals of her family's lives, emotions, relationships, and identity. She chose “intimacy” as this year’s theme. She said: I encourage artists to think of intimacy not only as physical closeness between people, but as emotional, psychological, or sensory connection – to a place, an object, a memory, or a state of mind. Intimacy from our lives and situation, or people close to us, or seen in other spaces, spheres, or strangers.
About Flight, Allyson says: Photographed from a window on the second tier at Fort Point, I was struck by the thick fog hugging the pier, the shaft of light that illuminated one windsurfer, and the wonderful moment when all three surfers were upright and aligned.

Soho Photo Gallery was founded in 1971 by a group of New York Times photographers who believed that there was a need in the photographic community for a cooperative gallery where serious photographers could exhibit their personal work, exchange ideas, and learn and grow as artists.
