A Place Out of Time, an image by Allyson Ely, has been included in the Center for Photographic Art (CPA) exhibition, A Light Exists in Spring, at the Marjorie Evans Gallery in Carmel, as part of PhotoCarmel 2026. The exhibition features works by CPA’s group of nearly 50 artists, pursuing a variety of photographic media. The exhibition's title was inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem and references the season of hope: In spring, with its magical light and its promise of renewal; flora and fauna alike emerge; the days grow longer; there is a shift in the air and a literal spring in your step as the shadows get shorter and the sun gets higher. Ann Jastrab, executive director of CPA, curated the exhibition. The exhibition runs from May 7 through June 23.

A Place Out of Time is an image from Allyson’s Uncommon Beauty series, taken in a working cement silo in Northern California.

The Center for Photographic Art (CPA), located at the Sunset Center in Carmel, was founded in 1988 to carry on the traditions of the Friends of Photography, established in 1967 by Ansel Adams, Cole and Brett Weston, Wynn Bullock, Nancy and Beaumont Newhall. Its mission is to increase understanding of and respect for photography and its important role in contemporary culture. The Marjorie Evans Gallery is a key part of Sunset Center's education and outreach initiatives. The gallery expands access to the arts and helps preserve the rich cultural fabric of the region. Sunset Center was formed in 2003; and its historic campus was built as a grade school in the 1920s with a school auditorium added in the 1930s. Sunset Center’s mission is to enrich, educate, and entertain through quality, diverse cultural offerings.
