Image by Allyson Ely Selected by The Image Flow Photography Center

Artifacts, an image by Allyson Ely, was selected by The Image Flow Photography Center in San Anselmo for inclusion in its Bay Area Photography Open 2026 Exhibition. The call for entry was open to photographers based in the extended San Francisco Bay Area; all styles and disciplines that utilize a photographic element were welcome. Jurors were Ann Jastrab, Executive Director of the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel; Nelson Chan, Associate Professor of Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design; Nathan Lomas, a Bay Area photographer, artist, and educator; and The Image Flow Staff. The exhibition, comprising images by 30 photographic artists, will run from September 21 through January 8. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, October 10, 5 to 7 pm. The images may be viewed online at https://theimageflow.com/upcoming-exhibitions/.

Allyson says:  Artifact or fan with a purpose? Footprints in the layer of cement powder on the floor suggest a human presence; the strange shadows and delicate tracings of white on the wall add to the mystery of this room. The sense of a place suspended in time is palpable, and begs the question: are we witnessing the present or deciphering the past?
