A Mother's Love was awarded Honorable Mention in the Moments Category. Chris says: I saw this mother and her son walking around Oaxaca, and she had been dragging him around as he resisted her attempts. This was one moment where he seemed to give in and reach for her hand. The shadow provided a peek into the moment.

Beneath the Surface was awarded First Place in the Travel category. He says: A moment of repose during Oaxaca's Carnaval celebration. The kids beneath the monos de calenda are in stark contrast with the figures above..

After the Party was awarded First Place in the Abstract category. He says: I used slow shutter speed to blur movement and light at a Carnaval celebration in Santa Catarina Minas. The person in the hat appears to be wrapped in the light. 

Cinder Ella was awarded Honorable Mention in the Portrait category. Suszi says: This portrait of the lovely Flannery was a happy accident. We were photographing around an abandoned rental car lot, which had been left to the weeds and graffiti. Flannery was climbing the trellis and posing with some fun dance moves, and once she got down, she was just covered in grime. Thus began an unexpected series of gritty glamour portraits. This one was my favorite.

Weevil was awarded Honorable Mention in the Wildlife category. Steven says: The giraffe weevil, endemic to Madagascar, is an interesting-looking insect – males have long necks for wrestling and attracting females, who have smaller necks. The female has an unusual behavior in that it rolls a leaf into a tube to hide and hatch her eggs.

Samarkand Summer Evening was awarded Honorable Mention in the Travel category. Bill says: After temperatures topping 100 degrees during the afternoon, the ancient Silk Road city of Samarkand comes to life in a still-warm evening. Locals congregate in a plaza facing the magisterial Registan, whose madrassas and mosques echo the sights and sounds of a bygone era when the Silk Road was the economic, cultural and scientific crossroads of the world. I took this shot during a long-dreamt-of trip to Uzbekistan, the heart of the ancient Silk Road, in the summer of 2024.
