Image by Brandon Stauffer selected by Praxis Gallery

Dune, an image by PACC member Brandon Stauffer, has been selected for inclusion in The Abstract Image Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis.

In this exhibition, the Praxis Gallery presents photographic works that explore the world through an abstracted lens, utilizing elements of color, light, shadow, texture, shape and line to express meaning outside of traditional representational and documentary styles of photography. The juror was Ross Anderson.

Brandon says: I made this image last summer in my backyard. It is a photograph of a metal faucet. I used a long exposure (1.3 seconds, to be exact) and a whole lot of intentional camera movement. A 6-stop ND filter played a crucial supporting role, as I took the shot in broad daylight. A previous version of this image won 2^ndplace in the Open category during the November 17, 2021, PACC monthly competition. Prior to submitting the image to Praxis, I solicited the creative wisdom of my friends in the Crop Circle small group. They suggested flipping the image upside down. This simple change dramatically improved the impact of the work, and I doubt it would have been selected for the exhibition without this alteration. My Crop Circle friends deserve a lot of credit for the success of this image.

Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center is a non-profit community-based arts organization that aims to support the development of emerging photographic artists.
