Images by Joe Petolino and Wright Schickli Selected by the Praxis Gallery

Images by PACC members Joe Petolino and Wright Schickli have been selected for inclusion in the Landscapes Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.

In this exhibition, Praxis Gallery presents photographic artwork that explores a broad, interpretive, and personal investigation of the landscape - as a place or an idea, as a literal expression or conceptual iteration. Douglas Beasley, owner and publisher of Shots Magazine, was the juror.

Joe Petolino: Canyon Rising

Joe says about his undulating image, Canyon Rising: This image was taken in Lower Antelope Canyon, near Page AZ, as part of a photo workshop that I attended in October 2013. Antelope Canyon is an intensely colorful place, but this B&W conversion seems to capture its essence the best. I always struggle with image titles. In this case, I imagined the curves of the canyon’s walls reaching up towards the light at the top.

Wright Schickli: Gilroy, California

Wright says, Gilroy, California is a photograph I captured one afternoon in the hills to the East of Gilroy, a new favorite area of mine to photograph trees, countryside and stray person-made objects that I come across during my photo adventures. Many thanks to my Crop Circle friends, especially Rob Mathews, for post-processing help!

The in-gallery exhibition will be on the walls February 18 through March 4. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, February 18, from 6 to 8 pm. The current location of the online exhibition is: https://www.praxisphotocenter.org/temp-gallery-4-2l3.

Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center is a non-profit community-based arts organization that aims to support the development of emerging photographic artists. Praxis provides photographic exhibitions and learning opportunities that inform, challenge, and engage the individual artist, and promotes artists’ work to local and international audiences.
