Enigma Variation No. 1, an image by PACC member Allyson Ely, has been selected for inclusion in the Order ≠ Disorder exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis. In the call for entry, Praxis wrote:
Order and disorder, form and formlessness, anarchy and rule: how do these concepts function in art? How do they operate in opposition to one another? What is intentional–and what is left to chance?

Praxis Gallery seeks to present an exhibit of photographic art that explores the concepts of order, disorder, or conflict between the two. Submissions may focus on these ideas as pure visual form expressed though compositional symmetry or disarray. They may also examine the cultural, social, or psychological implications of order and disorder; for example, exploring ideas of conformity or dissent, anxiety or calm, obsession or indifference, or other ephemeral expressions of this concept.
Order ≠ Disorder was curated by the Praxis directors, Ross Anderson, Jonathan Pavlica, and Jenni Undis.

If Enigma Variation No. 1 looks familiar, that’s because it is a multiple award winner. It received an HM in the Open category of last year’s annual Print competition (Enigma Variation No. 2 took 2nd!), it was awarded 1st place in the special Reflections category of the February Print competition, and it received an HM in May from The Image Flow Photography Center.

Allyson says: Enigma Variation No. 1 was taken on the Stanford campus. Part of a current project entitled The Enigma Variations, this series explores the transformative effect of light through shadows, reflections and layering.
