Milky Way over the Monterey Coast, an image by PACC member Bob Henderson, has been selected for inclusion in the Dusk to Dawn Exhibition at the Praxis Gallery and Photo Arts Center in Minneapolis.
For the Dusk to Dawn Exhibition, Praxis Gallery sought photographic works that explore the fundamental qualities that make night photography – from dusk till dawn – a compelling contemporary art form. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes were welcomed. The wonderful Hungarian-French photographer Brassaï said, “Night does not show things, it suggests them. It disturbs and surprises us with its strangeness. It liberates forces within us which are dominated by our reason during the daytime.”
The exhibition, curated by the Praxis directors, will run from December 16 through January 6. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, December 16, 6 to 8 PM. The current location of the exhibition is https://www.praxisphotocenter.org/temp-gallery-4-2ts3.
Bob says: My image was taken in Pacific Grove in October, 2020. I planned the date and time to have the Milky Way positioned above the Lone Cypress using the “PhotoPills” app. The image consisted of a composite of 10 frames of the stars and a single long exposure of the foreground. I felt that the point of land and the tree would lead the viewer to the stars, and the stars were a fitting salute to the famous tree.
Milky Way over the Monterey Coast was awarded Second Place in the Digital Natural Landscape Category of PACC’s 2020 Annual Competition by Kate Jordahl.
