Image by Wright Schickli Selected by A Smith Gallery

Ellen Gilkerson | Published on 1/16/2024

Ascension, an image by PACC member Wright Schickli, was selected for inclusion in the Interiors Exhibition of the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas.  Photographers were invited to submit work reflecting the theme Interiors, including inside, lining, midst, details, furnishings, details, space, indoors, lining, within, internals, contents ….  Ann Mitchell, educator and editor with Thinking About Photography, was the juror.  This online exhibition will run from January 19 through February 29.

Wright says:  I went back last summer to Shaker Village, Kentucky, for this image.  The Shakers were awesome craftsmen, and every building had separate entrances and stairs for men and women (the Shakers were celibate).  It took me a while to find the building that housed this mirror set of spiral staircases that I was entranced by five years earlier, and they were challenging to photograph because flash, tripods and monopods are forbidden.  I captured this image at 1/30 second at F3.4 and ISO 200 on my Leica M11 monochrome camera with a 28mm lens.

Ascension previously was awarded First Place in the Person Made Objects Category of the PACC August 2023 Print Competition by juror Victoria Heilweil.
