The Thursday Evening Critique small group is designed to foster a supportive and respectful space where members can share their images and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow photographers. We believe that growth in photography comes not only from creating images, but also from engaging in the critique of others’ work. Feedback may address composition, technique, artistic intent, and everything in between. While no specific level of technical proficiency is required to participate, many suggestions may involve post-processing adjustments using Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar photo-editing software.

The Special Theme is Love: Images depicting a close bond between two or more subjects. This may be romantic love, but also may include friendship, family, cherished possessions, etc. Subjects may be people, but could also be animals or any other entity. While any genre is acceptable, the image must clearly convey a sense of love.

Their presentations will cover the why, where, photography genre,learning takeaways and costs of various workshops they have attended. The Special Theme is Pareidolia: Images in the Pareidolia category highlight subjects, whether natural or man-made, that appear to resemble something else, such as a face, an animal, an object, or another recognizable form. The sense of resemblance may arise from shape,
pattern, shadow, or arrangement of elements, and it should be clear enough that most viewers would perceive the implied form without explanation. The pareidolic impression must be a primary visual feature of the image, not a minor or incidental detail.

The Thursday Evening Critique small group is designed to foster a supportive and respectful space where members can share their images and receive thoughtful feedback from fellow photographers. We believe that growth in photography comes not only from creating images, but also from engaging in the critique of others’ work. Feedback may address composition, technique, artistic intent, and everything in between. While no specific level of technical proficiency is required to participate, many suggestions may involve post-processing adjustments using Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar photo-editing software.

The Special Theme is Wind: Images in the Wind category depict the presence, effects, or impression of wind as a primary visual or conceptual element. Wind may be shown directly, through moving subjects such as blowing foliage, drifting sand, waves, smoke,
fabric, or hair; or indirectly, through forms, patterns, or conditions that clearly suggest the action or force of moving air. Any genre is acceptable, provided that the image strongly conveys wind’s motion, influence, or atmosphere as an essential part of the composition or storytelling.

The Special Theme is Paper Challenge: Glossy: Images must be printed on paper with sheen, including glossy, semigloss, or metallic. Lustre paper is not included. Prints will be judged on how well the image works on the glossy paper selected by the maker, in addition to overall image impact. Any genre or subject matter is acceptable.

We believe that growth in photography comes not only from creating images, but also from engaging in the critique of others’ work. Feedback may address composition, technique, artistic intent, and everything in between. While no specific level of technical proficiency is required to participate, many suggestions may involve post-processing adjustments using Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar photo-editing software.

The Special Theme is Contentment: Images in the Contentment category convey a clear sense of peace, satisfaction, or emotional ease. The viewer should experience a feeling of contentment, whether expressed through people, animals, nature, objects, or abstract forms. Contentment may be shown through expressions, gestures, interactions, environments, or visual cues that evoke calm, fulfillment, or quiet joy. Any photographic genre is acceptable so long as the image strongly communicates this emotional state through its subjects, composition, atmosphere, or storytelling.

The Special Theme is Shadows: Images in the Shadows category feature shadows as a primary visual or compositional element. The shadow‘s shape, contrast, pattern, or interaction with light should play a central role in the image’s impact or storytelling. Shadows may be cast by any subject, natural or artificial, and may appear sharp, soft, abstract, or representational. While the objects creating the shadows may be included or implied, the emphasis must remain on the shadows and the visual relationships they create. Any photographic genre is acceptable as long as the shadow element is intentional, prominent, and essential to the overall composition.

We believe that growth in photography comes not only from creating images, but also from engaging in the critique of others’ work. Feedback may address composition, technique, artistic intent, and everything in between. While no specific level of technical proficiency is required to participate, many suggestions may involve post-processing adjustments using Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar photo-editing software.

The Special Theme is Literally Black and White: Images in the Literally Black and White category are composed exclusively of pure black and pure white tones, with no shades of gray. Every pixel in the image must be rendered as either full white or full black, creating a true high-contrast, binary presentation. Any subject matter or genre is acceptable, but the absence of gray tones must be intentional and integral to the image’s visual impact. The strength of the photograph should arise from the photographer’s effective use of
stark contrast, silhouette, pattern, shape, or graphic design within the strict black-and-white-only constraint.

The Focus on Fauna small group meets from 7pm to 9:00pm on the third Thursday of every month, using our club‘s primary Zoom account. This group is currently leaderless, but we meet anyway. The Thursday Evening Share small group meets twice per month using Sue Borg‘s Zoom account:
Session 1: 7:30pm - 9pm every second Thursday
Session 2: 7:30pm - 9pm every fourth Thursday
